Bird and Bee Education
2025 Position Statement on Dignity and Respect
for People of All Sexes, Genders, and Sexualities

  • Bird and Bee Education formally rejects the incoming federal administration's declaration, issued on January 20, 2025, that, “As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”[1]  The decree, given by one individual, whose academic and professional qualifications do not confer relevant expertise regarding the nature of gender, willfully denies the lived experiences of many Americans who may already be facing numerous emotional, medical, physical, social, legal, and financial threats in communities across the United States.  The assertion that “there are only two genders” has been debunked by multiple, credible sources in the fields of medicine, mental health, and science (see sidebar) and reflects philosophical, moral, and religious beliefs, not empirical fact.  While Bird and Bee Education remains committed to honoring diverse personal, cultural, and religious views, to enshrine one set of religious or moral beliefs into the official policies of our pluralistic and democratic nation violates our country’s core founding principle of Separation of Church and State.

  • Bird and Bee Education passionately stands with transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming people everywhere and commits to educating and advocating for the dignity, rights, equality, and safety of every person and community.

  • Bird and Bee Education will continue to comply with California Laws and Educational Codes, which require medically accurate and comprehensive sexual health education that is: inclusive of all genders and sexualities; and prohibited from promoting or teaching religious doctrine.[2]

  • Bird and Bee Education will continue to align with the definitions and positions put forth by the American Psychological Association[3] and American Psychiatric Association[4] (both go by APA), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)[5], American Medical Association (AMA)[6], and 12 entities of the United Nations, including the World Health Organization (WHO)[7].  All of these organizations are populated by hundreds of thousands of qualified professionals (see footnotes) who utilize scientific principles to ascertain best practices and most current, credible understanding of human experiences, with the goal of promoting individual and community health and wellbeing.  Please educate yourself by clicking on sidebar links. --->

  • Bird and Bee Education further opposes rolling back gains made in securing equal rights for gender and sexual minorities and the elimination of protections against the practices of Gender Identity Change Efforts and Sexual Orientation Change Efforts (a.k.a. conversion “therapies”) which have been unanimously repudiated as harmful, unethical, and unprofessional practices in the fields of psychology and psychiatry (see APA Resolution).

*** A special note on the American College of Pediatricians (ACP).***  This self-described medical association should not be confused with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).  The ACP, consisting of a few hundred members (in contrast to AAP's 67,000 member base), has been designated a Hate Group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and is not considered a medically accurate, unbiased, or credible source on sexuality-related topics.  Learn more: www.splcenter.org/resources/extremist-files/american-college-pediatricians/
